“大气”源于立意 “清爽”出自素质

------点评温宏娟在宁海参评市教坛新秀的课

 

 

温宏娟的上课内容是高一必修1 第5单元的阅读课,ELIAS’STORY。本节课的中心话题是 “The qualities of a great person”。说温宏娟老师的课“大气”,是因为她立意高,突出情感,宣染情绪,引导学生从语言学习中体会伟大人物之所以伟大;说温宏娟老师的课“清爽”是因为她全面的教师素质,帮助学生习得语言干净利落,绝不拖泥带水。

 

铃一响,温老师与学生简单招呼后,就鼓励学生要Be brave, and speak loudly. 图示一幅学生热烈鼓掌、快乐学习的课堂场面,一下子点燃了学生的学习热情。接下去出来一个“猜人游戏”,屏幕刚打出:

A singer from Taiwan  有学生已在悄悄说,周杰伦

He sings many songs, including chrysanthemum (菊花台). 第二句亮出时几乎全笑了,果然是周杰伦,师生距离拉得很近,学生也一下子活跃起来。

接着老师亮出下列句子:

A revolutionist(革命家)   学生沉默,纷纷在猜,哪是谁?

He founded the first Republic(共和国) in China in 1911.  一下子孙中山先生就逸然而出了。

 

老师问:Is Zhou Jielun famous? 学生答:Yes, of course.

老师再问:Is Sun Yat-sen famous? 学生答:Yes, he is.

老师概括:Yes, they are both famous, but are they both great?

学生有的答Yes, 有的答No. 大部分学生说,No.

老师同意大部分学生观点。说:Great men are all famous, but famous men are not all great.  老师板书,famous =/= great

话题一转,自然引出:What qualities make a great person?

 

学生在讨论基础上老师概括一个伟人的品质主要有:

Warm-hearted ,Determined, Mean, Generous,Brave,Stubborn, Selfless, Selfish,Devoted               Active            …

学生齐读:A great person is someone who devotes his/her life to helping others.

这时,温老师恰当好处地引出了今天的课题: Nelson Mandela, is he a great person? 通过Elias’ story完成阅读任务:

1       What kind of person is he?

2         What did he do?

3        What did he say?

 

学生开始快速阅读,并回答下列问题:

1       What’s the connection between them?

2        What is the main idea of the story?

3     What is the general idea of each paragraph?

 

通过阅读,学生在三个选项中很快选出第一个问题的正确答案C

What’s the connection between them?

A. Elias is a worker in Mandela’s gold mine.

B. Elias received help from his lawyer, Mandela.

C. Elias got help from Mandela and then supported Mandela and his movement.

 

接着选择第二个问题: What is the main idea of the story?

The story is about __________ .


       A.  the poor life of black people in South  Africa.
       B.  the life of Mandela.

C.  how Mandela helped Elias and black people in South Africa.

D.  how Elias met Mandela.

 

学生给出正确答案C。此时,人物关系已经很明朗了,一个被帮助者与帮助者之间的因果使然交待得非常清晰了。老师要求学生把五个段落分成两部分,学生给出正确答案:

 

前三段Para 1.Para 2.Para 3. 着重讲:How Elias got help from Mandela.

 

后两段Para 4.Para 5. 主要讲:How Elias supported Mandela and the movement.

 

深入阅读part 1, 亮出六个个问题:Part 1:True or False


Elias is a poor worker and Mandela was a lawyer offering guidance to poor black people.
Elias was grateful that Mandela was generous with his time.
Elias left school because the school was too far from his home.
Elias might be out of work because he was too poor.
Mandela helped Elias keep his job.
Elias thought that Mandela was kind and hopeful.

 

学生细心阅读,判断真假,并对假的信息予以更正。对课文中出现的新词加以识记。第125正确。346 false. 更正为:

3. Elias left school because his family was too poor.

4. Elias might be out of work because he didn’t have a passbook to live in Johannesburg.

6. Elias thought that Mandela was kind and helpful.

 

第一部分学完后,温老师引导学生读第二部分Part 2: Answer questions:


What situation were the black people in at that time? 为什么Mandela 说:…we have reached a stage where we have almost no rights at all…?

要求学生填空:

They could not ________.

They could not get the _____they wanted.

They had to live in the _________ areas and they could not  grow _____ there.

学生答:

They could not __vote or choose leaders______.  温老师问:What right did the black people lose?  学生答法多样,老师统一为:politics, 黑人没有政治权!

They could not get the _job___ they wanted.  Job employment  黑人没有就业权!

 

They had to live in the _poorest_ areas and they could not  grow _food__ there. Living conditions. 黑人几乎没有生存权!

至此,黑人与白人之间的不平等已被宣染到极至,学生齐声喊出发自心底的词:UNFAIR! 温老师紧紧抓住学生的心,恰当好处地指导学生反复朗读曼德拉的第一段话,体会蕴含其中的不平之气:

    “The last thirty years have seen the greatest number of laws stopping our rights and progress, until today we have reached a stage where we have almost no rights at all.”

并讲解seen的用法,找到下列与原句seen用法相同的句子,把难点化解于无形,Personification usage:(拟人用法)

The word “see” shares the same meaning with the one in sentence______


They haven’t seen this film before.
This year has seen  many earthquakes so far.

 

 


Why did Elias help Nelson Mandela blow up some government buildings?

Because he felt it was  impossible_ to change this unfair situation by peaceful actions. 通过完成上句填空,学生共同理解了为何要:Answer violence with violence

温老师放事先录音好的Mandela 的第二段话,并在节奏上帮助学生朗读,让学生边跟读边体会为何从和平抗争演变为以暴制暴的历程,这极具感染力的话是怎么打动、鼓舞黑人起来反抗。

“…we were put into a position in which we had either to accept we were less important, or fight the government. We chose to attack the laws. We first broke the law in a way which was peaceful; when this was not allowed … only then did we decide to answer violence with violence.”

 

一个英雄形象至此全烘托出来,Nelson Mandela: a modern hero, 是他 Make black and white people equal

再次提出话题,概括Mandela的 qualities.

From the statement, what qualities do you think Mandela has?

 

这样课堂已接近尾声,为了进一步巩固课本内容并落实本节课的语言功能目标语操练:Asking for opinions & giving opinions, 温老师设计了以下任务:

Group work: Summary & Report:

1.Today, we’d like to introduce a great person,

    Nelson Mandela. He offered…(What did he do?)

2.In our opinion, he is … because…(What kind of 

     person is he?)

3. We’re impressed by his statement. He once said,

     “…”(what did he say? Pay attention to pauses)

4. In a word, …is considered as …, who has 

    inspired many people, including Elias. As high

    school students, we have learned to be…

 

 

小组讨论后学生展示,由于时间快到,展示的同学不多,使听课者稍许感到遗憾,四十分钟的一节课在一首歌谣声中结束:学生齐读:

What Makes a Great Person?

He is  kind and selfless  to all people

He is generous to help those in need

He is the one who has no fear

He is determined and

Stands up for what he believes in

Therefore,

He will achieve his dream.

 

Homework:

1        Read more introduction about Nelson Mandela on page 39 and polish your report;

2        Write an essay on:

       A great person in my heart

 

小温的课因立意高而显“大气”,这在这次评比中难得一见,好多课都流于字词的表面,活动也只是走过场,对文本中蕴含的思想、形为逻辑都没作深层次的挖掘,更无法谈及情感教育。过去,一句老话,“煞清爽,梅兰芳。”高度赞扬梅兰芳先生唱的京戏,今用来,“煞清爽,温宏娟。”以表扬温宏娟老师上的这堂课!她温而娟秀的语音语貌以及所表现出的综合素质让她摘得宁波市第十一届高中英语教坛新秀一等奖当真是名至实归!

 

因温宏娟老师摘得的这块金牌,3WWW组合有新的诠注了,鄞州区最近五届该赛事中先后有正始中学王勇、鄞江中学王华英、鄞州高级中学温宏娟获得市一等奖,他们的首个拼写字母都是W!
